Reality is Going Green
With the visible negative effects of global warming on our planet such as climate change caused by high carbon emissions by businesses and communities, more emphasis is now being placed on sustainable living.
“Sustainable living means being accountable for your actions on a daily basis and always thinking about how your lifestyle impacts the environment”, says Francois Uys Reality’s Marketing and Partner Manager. The main aim of sustainable living is to reduce carbon emission into the earth’s atmosphere
“Reality is aware if this and that is why we have decided to print our 64-page reality magazine on Triple Green paper”, says Francois. RamsayMedia who is responsible for the design and printing of the reality magazine has teamed up with Sappi paper manufacturers to print the currently 95 000 (this figure is constantly growing) print run every quarter and since this is one of their biggest jobs it made sense to start their sustainable business practice here.
What is Tripple Green?
Sappi paper manufacturer’s Triple Green initiative works on three principles: sugar cane fibre, chlorine - free and sustainable afforestation.
60% Sugar cane fibre is used in the manufacturing of the Triple Green page. It is manufactured through a process called bagasse. This means that the remaining fibre was used after the sugar has been extracted from the harvested cane.
An elemental chlorine-free process is used in the bleaching process of the pulp. This means that chlorine dioxide and hydrogen peroxide are used instead of chlorine. These chemicals are internationally recognised as being environmentally friendly.
Wood is the remaining fibre used to produce Triple Green paper. This fibre first goes through a Chain of Custody (CoC) certification process and has the stamp of an internationally recognised body – in South Africa it will be the Forrest Stewardship council (FSC). The CoC certifications objective is to protect indigenous forest resources through the promotion of growing and harvesting of trees. The protection of social welfare, plants, soil and wildlife all play an integral role in the CoC certification process.
The reality magazine was implemented as it ties in with Reality’s main business objectives that are: To find innovative, interactive ways to manage, to maintain and to nurture client relationships more effectively. ”We are very proud of this initiative since the reality magazine plays a fundamental part in us reaching our business objectives”, says Francois. The aim of the Reality programme is also to empower its members through: Saving them time on lifestyle events and money on lifestyle purchases. Helping them maintain a healthier lifestyle’ and to keep them informed and educated on a number of topics.
The magazine helps to enforce and maintain these aims through the content it contains. The content covered is travel, money, wheels, wellness, tech, shop, competitions and more. So far Reality received tremendously positive feedback from its readers, as the magazine makes a big difference. All Reality members get the quarterly reality magazine for free.
The Autumn/Winter 2010 edition that will be circulated in May will be printed on Triple Green paper for the first time and will display the Triple Green logo.
